The online shoe seller Zappos.com sent me an email notification today informing me that my credit card and payment information was compromised on its website. According to reports by the Associated Press, 24 million accounts were hacked into by a outside party. To prevent further exposure to my credit history, the company has urged all of its affected users to change their account password. The damage done to the brand reputation of Zappos.com can best be summed up by its CEO, Mr. Tony Hsieh, “We’ve spent over 12 years building our reputation, brand, and trust with our customers[…]It’s painful to see us take so many steps back due to a single incident. I suppose the one saving grace is that the database that stores our customers’ critical credit card and other payment data was not affected or accessed.”
